Transportation in the city

Appalachian State University is located in Boone, North Carolina, and the distance between the city and the university is less than a mile. Students can travel to the university by a coach line that makes round-trip bus routes daily. Additionally, students can avail of taxi services which last for two minutes. Formal and informal ride-sharing is an alternative mode of transportation or students can even walk to campus which lasts for 10 minutes. 


Services offered by the university

  • The Belk Library & Information Commons features a rich and unique collection along with research help, course support, and study rooms and spaces. 
  • In order to facilitate student support, the university offers a student learning center, tutoring services, a writing center, academic advising, and IT support services.

Student life

  • Appalachian State University hosts over 400+ student clubs and organizations that cover areas of interest like academics, entertainment, fraternity & sorority, culture, politics, religion, arts, and sustainability, among many more. 
  • Students often participate in on-campus concerts, comedy, movies, and other educational or entertaining events. 
  • The university members contribute nearly 2 million volunteer hours to the community, serving 100+ local nonprofit organizations every year.

Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Appalachian State University provides and supports innovative and interdisciplinary research opportunities due to its small communities, access to diverse natural resources, and significant weather patterns. Students, faculty members, and even individuals from countries across the world have access to the university’s seven research centers and institutes. The Office of Research provides research support with regards to funding, proposals, management of projects, and more. The Career Development Center assists students with internship search, preparation, financing, and tips.
