Johnson City, Tennessee's East Tennessee State University (ETSU) is a public research university. Transportation in the city

Parking for carpools is only available to students who are registered as commuters. Applications for carpools are available in person or online at www.etsu.edu/parking. At least two students must sign up and submit the necessary application data. For late-night service, on-call shuttles are also available, ensuring your safety as you move about campus. All normal route buses operated by Johnson City Transit and the BucShot shuttle are free of charge for ETSU students, staff, and faculty who can produce a valid ETSU ID. JCTS - Johnson City buses are available for bus transit (schedules, maps etc.) One can call taxis like Mom's TAXI: 423-975-0698 and WW Cab CO: 423-929-8316.


Services offered by the university

  • Everyone is welcome to use the library; however, those who are not ETSU students must obtain a Sherrod Library Guest Card to access its materials and resources.
  • Candidates for certification as school library media specialists to work in K–12 institutions are prepared in the School Librarianship, M.Ed. programme at East Tennessee State University. The curriculum complies with Tennessee State licence requirements, American Library Association, American Association of School Librarians, and other professional standards.

Student life

Founded in 1911, East Tennessee State University is a public university. The campus is 366 acres and has a total undergraduate enrolment of 10,705 (fall 2020). It is located in a city. The academic calendar is based on semesters.

  • The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) provides a wide range of sporting and recreational opportunities. Sports and recreation are a big part of the ETSU experience, whether watching a varsity volleyball match, hiking on the Appalachian Trail, or playing intramural flag football.
  • To help historically underrepresented students adjust to campus life and create a network of friends, instructors, and staff to support them during their time at ETSU, QUEST is a college transition programme that takes place the week before fall classes start.
  • The SGA at ETSU accomplishes much more than acting as a channel for official correspondence between the academics, staff, and administration. Additionally, the group plans Homecoming, Civility Events, Faculty Appreciation Week, Faculty Appreciation Week, and other significant concerts and events throughout the year.
  • To honour the range of ancestry and cultural traditions present at ETSU, the office of the Multicultural Center collaborates with departments across campus, bringing knowledge and understanding to the school in several ways.

On campus accomodation

Resources including floor plans, amenities, pictures, movies, information about the Living-Learning Community, and more are available on each community website. All on-campus housing options, except Buccaneer Ridge Apartments, which need 30 credit hours for admission, are open to first-year students.

The Quillen College of Medicine's purpose must include a significant component of medical research (QCOM). The molecular underpinnings of physical and psychological problems that lower the quality of life for people in our area and around the world are the focus of active research by scientists at the QCOM. In addition to actively doing research, our academics, staff, and students are working to find new treatments and cures for various ailments and diseases that affect the residents of our area. The cardiovascular system, the immunological system, and the nervous system, including the brain, are three areas of particular attention for QCOM experts who study a wide range of medical research issues.
