Fairfield University is a private Catholic University founded by the Society of Jesus in 1942. It has nearly 5000 students enrolled, including international students from over 20 countries. The University’s educational mission is to provide a liberal arts education based on Jesuit ideals. The College of Arts and Sciences, the Charles F. Dolan School of Business, the Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies,  the School of Engineering, and the Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions are the five academic schools that offer programmes at Fairfield University.

Fairfield University is situated in Fairfield, Connecticut, a Long Island Sound seaside town. New York City is less than 60 miles away, and the Metro-North Railroad takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes to get there.

  • There are 35 buildings on Fairfield's campus covering 200 acres (0.81 km2), anchored by three manor homes from the original estates: Bellarmine Hall (1921), originally known as 'Hearthstone Hall', renamed in honor of Saint Robert Bellarmine, S.J; McAuliffe Hall (1896), originally built for the Governor of New York. 
  • Jennings' 'Mailands', named in honor of Bishop Maurice F. McAuliffe, who authorized Fairfield University's creation; and David J. Dolan House, Jennings' 'Larribee', named in honor of Charles F. Dolan's uncle, who made the 1989 acquisition of Dolan Campus possible.
  • There are several student life facilities located at the Barone Campus Center (named in honor of university Provost and Chemistry Professor Dr. John Barone), including the Tully Dining Commons, the Oak Room, the Main Dining Hall, Offices of FUSA, StagCard, WVOF, Residence Life, and Student Affairs.

The Center for Catholic Studies, The Center for Ignatian Spirituality, The Center for Faith and Public Life, and The Carl and Dorothy Bennett Center for Judaic Studies are among the academic and spiritual centres on the university grounds.

  • The University's Art Museum provides a variety of options for art enthusiasts. It is a place where original artworks with historical significance can be found.
  • There are various activities for students to participate in that increase their decision-making abilities, diversity, event organizing, and other skills, with over 100 student-run groups and organizations, spanning from academic to cultural clubs available on campus.

On campus accomodation

Fairfield University offers a variety of on-campus housing choices for students. Housing is guaranteed to all full-time undergraduate students for four years.

  • Freshmen live in traditional-style halls, sophomores in traditional and suite-style halls, and juniors and seniors in townhouses, apartments, or off-campus housing.
  • There are eight traditional residence halls with double and triple rooms, while the suite style residence halls have two halls and offer double occupancy rooms.        
  • Juniors and seniors can live in one of three apartment buildings or townhouses, each of which has a single bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, dining area, living room, and air conditioning.

Undergraduate students from all disciplines are empowered and encouraged to perform innovative, in-depth, and collaborative research at the College of Arts and Sciences, with academic specialists and staff guiding and encouraging them. More than 300 faculty-student research projects in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), the Arts,  Humanities and Social Sciences are completed each year, with more than half of them being presented at National Scholarly Meetings and/or released in professional journals and manuscripts.
