About

“There’s a place for you at FAMU,” goes the tagline of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee in Florida, which is one of the historically Black Universities (HBU). It was founded with a view to provide admission to African-American students back in the day. Founded in the year 1887, FAMU is one of the largest HBUs in the United States now, where 90% of the students are African-Americans. Despite being an Agricultural and Mechanical college, the University also offers courses in Journalism, Health Management, Law, Pharmacy and allied fields.
The Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University was given the first place for being the best Historically Black College and University by the National Science Foundation, in 2015 and also for its extensive research and development expenditures. In the same year, Forbes Magazine listed FAMU as one of the Best Colleges in the South and also America’s Top Colleges.
