About

Laval University is an open research university that was founded in 1663 and is affiliated with CARL, AUFC, AUCC, IAU, CBIE, CIS, and UArctic. Francois De Montmorency-Laval, the first Bishop of New France, founded the University. The University was previously known as Seminaire De Quebec. The University was established to train and educate priests to serve New France. It later expanded its academic structure and began teaching liberal arts. Theology, law, medicine, science, social science, and forestry faculties were established at the university in the early twentieth century. University also added a research thesis to the curriculum. Economic, political, and social sciences departments were established in 1938 and have since become well-known faculties.

Laval University courses include BSc Nursing, BBA, BEd, BSc & BA, etc., with various specializations. The University provides 500 programs across all subject areas and includes more than 60 departments, schools, and institutes.

The Campus of Laval University is just a 1-hour drive from Edmonton International Airport and a 1.5-hour drive from Calgary International Airport. Laval University provides subsidized transportation services within the Campus for full-time students.

  • Laval University campus features modular classrooms, learning spaces, and business incubators to enhance students' learning abilities.
  • Each pavilion features a living room, a game room with a pool table and TV, study rooms, a music room, and a space for the visual and performing arts. 
  • It also has terraces and outdoor facilities. By providing conferences, hospitality activities, information kiosks, physical activities, thematic seminars, and cultural events, the resident services look after the needs of the students.
  • The Montmorency Forest, the largest teaching and research forest in the world is located there and serves as an outdoor laboratory. With almost 4,000 types of plants from all over the world, the Roger Van den Hende Botanical Garden serves as a classroom for students studying horticultural sciences.

Student life

Laval University campus is on top of a hill overlooking Barnett Lake Lacombe, Alberta. Sixty-four percent of the Laval University campus comprises trees and green space. A system of pedestrian tunnels connects nearly 40 campus buildings. LU offers a library, a sports complex called PEPS, and a stadium for collegiate athletics called TELUS.

  • The institution offers four pavilions for student housing: the Ernest-Lemieux Pavilion, the H. Biermans L. Moraud Pavilion, the Agathe Lacerte Pavilion, and the Alphonse-Marie-Parent Pavilion.
  • In their rooms, students are given single beds, mattresses, work tables, chairs, bookcases, drawers, wardrobes, bookshelves, and telephones.
  • The fridge, oven, toaster, and coffee maker are addable for students. A single room costs 368 CAD (22,744.41INR) per month for an international student.
  • Laval University has more than 30 clubs, including Business Club, drama club, French club, etc., that help students find their interests.
