About

Mercyhurst University was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in the year 1926 in Erie, Pennsylvania. It first started as Mercyhurst College, with only 23 students, all of whom were women. In the year 2012, it was accredited with the title of a University. It is now the second-largest Mercy university in all of the USA. 

Mercyhurst University has more than 85 undergraduate majors and offers 13 Mercyhurst University  master’s programmes. A total of 2,900 students are currently enrolled in the University. Mercyhurst has the aim of teaching children through a balance of faith and reason.

Transportation in the city

Many transite modes such as bus, train, taxi, etc. are readily available and students can use them. Mercyhurst University has Commuter Student Services to help students who commute to the university from surrounding areas. They also have a commuter lounge for them to rest and study in between classes and during off-time.

Student life

Mercyhurst University Campus spans over 75 acres of land. It is situated on a hill that overlooks the grand Lake Erie. They have many recreational clubs and a very rich sports history as well. Students can enjoy a variety of activities such as

  • Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Cross Country, Soccer, Tennis and many other outdoor games. 
  • They also have many club sports such as Figure Skating, Ice Hockey, Cheerleading, Dance, Volleyball and much more.

On campus accomodation

One of the best things about Mercyhurst University is that more than 90% of its students live on campus. It is a residential campus and all undergraduate students are mandated to live on campus all through their senior year. 

Mercyhurst has three residential halls for freshmen students and limited graduate housing.

  • The Baldwin Hall (all female), the McAuley Hall (all male), and the Warde Hall (co-ed)
  • Sophomore students also get the opportunity to live in the Duvall Apartments, the Briggs Apartments, or the Ryan Hall.
  • The upper-class men can live in either the Briggs and Lewis Apartments or the 41st Street Townhouses. .

Shared rooms in Baldwin and McAukey cost around 12,750 USD (INR 975,000) per academic year, while the premium ones in Wardle cost roughly 15,300 USD (INR 1,170,240).

Mercyhurst University has the Center for Intelligence Research Analysis (CIRAT) to train students in working with private sector and government entities on Data Science, Cyber Security, etc. The University provides research opportunities for their Anthropology and Forensic students. They also have an IRB or Institutional Review Board that monitors and reviews all research related to the Biomedical and Behavioral Nature of human fields.
