In Ohio, public transit is safe, efficient, and well-connected. All students are allowed to drive on campus, which is also served by public transportation (parking permits are required for most on-campus parking). The Hocking Athens Perry Community Action, the City of Athens, and the Ohio Department of Transportation worked together to create the GoBus intercity bus service. The GoBus is a twice-daily public transportation system that connects Athens, Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Marietta, Parkersburg, Van Wert, Wooster, and nearby communities.

Located in Cleveland, Lakefront Lines is a bus company that operates daily routes from campus to destinations all over Ohio. Transferring to another Lakefront bus will allow passengers to go to Buffalo, New York, Erie, Pennsylvania, Chicago, Illinois, Charleston, West Virginia, South Bend, Indiana, and Louisville, Kentucky. Shuttle Services for Airports Use is encouraged for Ohio University students, family, guests, and visitors going from the John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) to the Athens Campus.
