Saint Mary's is a Catholic, non-profit private institution. To date, no other Catholic university in Texas or the Southwestern United States can match its founding by Marianists or the Society of Mary in 1852. It is currently the most prominent Catholic institution in Texas. At this Catholic and Marianist University, you will find various opportunities to become active in your academic pursuits and religious life. A downtown campus with a 135-acre footprint and a total undergraduate enrollment of 2,139 students (fall 2020). It follows a school year divided into two semesters. Health Services: The Student Health Center at St. Mary's University is open to all presently enrolled students. Students, academics, and staff members' spouses and children must receive medical care outside of the St. Mary's University Student Health Center.

Counseling Services: The Family Life Center's counselors are trainees under the supervision of licensed University faculty members. All St. Mary's University students are enrolled in the Department of Counseling and Human Services training programs. Some St. Mary's University counselors are fluent in English, while others are fluent in Spanish. The services of a counselor are available to everyone who needs them.

St. Mary's University is the hub of a lively community of students. The university's different St. Mary's campuses are known for being diverse, welcoming, and focused on students.

Campus Life: Campus safety and security at St. Mary's University of San Antonio includes a 24-hour escort and transport service, lit pathways and sidewalks, emergency phones, and restricted access to dormitories. St. Mary's University in San Antonio offers alcohol for those of legal drinking age.

Sports Activities: St. Mary's University offers 12 men's and women's varsity sports in the Lone Star Conference. Baseball (2001), Men's basketball (1989), and golf (1989), softball (1986 and 2002)) are the sports in which St. Mary's has won national championships as a team (2006). In addition, St. Mary's will field an esports team in 2020.

Research opportunities at university

St. Mary's University students, graduates, and staff are recognized for their research during the First Annual Research Week. SPARC and OSRI thank all who have contributed to the research, innovation, and scholarship. In addition, St. Mary's University's annual Research Symposium and Creative Activities Exhibition promotes scholarly discussion. Presenters promote scientific findings and analyses, analytical assessments or projects, innovations/inventions, senior projects, and creative art or media. Open to undergraduate, graduate, and law students. The program in Texas combines fundamental engineering principles with 24 credit hours of technical electives related to drone technology. These technical electives include a senior design project in which students develop drone technology for real-world applications for industry partners and a drone flight certification.
