The University of Calgary may trace its ancestry back to the University of Alberta's first Calgary campus. Calgary University's name was changed in 1957 when the provincial government of Alberta promised financial support for its expansion (UAC). A few months after that, in April 1966, the University of Calgary became an autonomous institution. It had been a part of the University of Alberta prior to this period. It has grown tremendously since its inception in 1966, when there were just over 4,000 students at the university. More than 33,000 students are now enrolled at the university's five locations.

Transportation in the city

Located in the prime location of the city the transportation is very convenient. Students and guests can both use the public as well as private transportation. However, public transportations are quite inconvenient while private transportations are very convenient as parking facilities are readily available.


Services offered by the university

The University of Calgary has five locations: four in Calgary and one in Doha. Eleven of the university's 14 departments are situated on the main campus in Calgary's northwest quarter. In 2007, the University of Calgary's Qatar Campus opened its doors in Doha, Qatar. An undergraduate and graduate degree in nursing are available at this university.

Additionally Cumming School of Medicine and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the Foothills Campus is home to cutting-edge medical research. There is a Veterinary Medicine Faculty, a Veterinary Sciences Research Station, and a Wildlife Research Station on the Spy Hill Campus. The Haskayne Business School and Public Policy are located on the Downtown Campus.

The university possesses a critical mass of research expertise in six fields that are considered to be global priorities for research: energy innovations for today and tomorrow; treating humans in a changing environment; technical solutions for health; new earth-space innovations; infections, inflammation, and chronic diseases; and brain and mental health. In addition, the University of Calgary provides funding for research in two new interdisciplinary fields: child health and wellness, and one health. Internship opportunities (Part time job opportunities)

Regardless of the field of study, a full-time student who has a valid study permit is eligible to participate in the work-study program in Canada. During the school year, students who are enrolled in the university's Work-Study Program (WSP) will have the opportunity to work part-time either on or off campus. This is made possible via the WSP. At the University of Calgary, there are a variety of departments and offices where international students might find on-campus employment opportunities.
