Transportation in the city

University of Georgia is located in Athens, Georgia and the distance between the city and the university is 1.7 miles. The university is only a 10-minute walk and a taxi service generally lasts 2 minutes. University of Georgia Campus Transit provides bus and paratransit services to the university on weekdays, nights, and weekends. The transit system is available to all community members of the campus through the university’s mobile app.

University of Georgia carries out its educational processes through the following schools listed below:

  • The university is spread across 762 acres with 465 buildings. The campus is equipped with 625 classrooms and learning spaces, most with some type of AV technology and other instructional applications. 
  • Spread across most of its educational and research departments, the university provides both its students and faculty with more than 30 laboratories. 
  • University of Georgia Athens Campus offers nine libraries that receive more than three million visits per year and contain the most used technology labs. Some of these include the Main Library, Zell B. Miller Learning Center, McBay Science Library, and Map and Government Information Library. 
  • Within Most of the libraries on campus, students can access a variety of individual and group study spaces. All of which include wireless connections and power outlets. 
  • Students are provided with numerous academic assistance services through workshops, peer mentor programs, academic advising, distance learning services, academic coaching, tutoring, career planning, and more. 
  • The university’s Disability Resource Center assists students in need with a range of academic and campus resources and campus accessibility services. 
  • Student Care & Outreach provides resources and assistance to both students and faculty who experience unforeseen circumstances. Their services include academic assistance, campus engagement, financial assistance, well-being, and more. 

Student life

  • The university has more than 800 student organizations that cover a diverse range of interests including greek societies, multicultural services and programs, religious organizations, academic honorary organizations, and special interest clubs.
  • Administered by the University of Georgia Recreational Sports, students have access to 40+ club sports. These include archery, badminton, baseball, cross country, equestrian, gymnastics, ice hockey, soccer, tennis, frisbee, and wrestling, among few. 
  • The Club Sports Complex includes natural and synthetic turf surfaces and competition fields for the University of Georgia’s Club Sports teams.
  • University of Georgia Athens Campus also includes a rock climbing wall, swimming pool, group fitness and personal training centers, gym, game center, and an equipment shop. 
  • University of Georgia Athens Campus’s University Health Center is one of the country’s top and largest health centers. The center is equipped with 22 physicians and more than 300 experienced staff members. It offers services in departments of physical therapy, mental health, radiology, sports medicine, allergies, dental care, women's care, and more. 
  • Additionally, the ASPIRE clinic on campus provides a range of low-cost or no-cost services to individuals, couples, and families throughout the Athens Community. Their services include Therapy​, financial Planning and counseling, nutrition education​, and legal problem-solving. 
  • The PRIDE Center at the university aims at creating an inclusive and informed campus for individuals of the LGBTQIA+ community. 
  • Students and faculty usually gather at a dynamic space on campus called the Intersection where they can explore issues of social justice. 
  • The university offers its students a number of unique leadership programs like the Annual Student Leadership Conference and other Leadership Summits. 
  • Campus safety is thoroughly taken care of by The University of Georgia Crime Prevention Unit which overlooks other important areas like the women’s clinic, sexual violence prevention, and more.
