The University of Mississippi, also widely referred to as Ole Miss, is a public research university founded in 1844, located in Oxford, Mississippi, with a medical center in Jackson. Transportation in the city

The Rebel Red and Rebel Blue buses operate on campus for students, faculty and staff members. The department of Parking and Transportation manages bus schedules, issues parking permits, and operates the campus bike shop.

  • There are a number of special academic buildings on campus such as the Fortune Gallery, Mary Buie Museum, University Gallery, Rowan Oak and Walton-Young Historic House.

  • Students at UM have access to a range of basic student services, including women's centers and health services.
  • University of Mississippi Museum houses collections of American fine art, classical antiquities, and southern folk art, as well as historic properties in Oxford.
  • The campus provides access to computers in the library, student center, residence hall, computer lab, and the computer center. There are over 4.43 million books and journals in the University library.

Student life

There are six campuses of the University of Mississippi, including five regional campuses located in De Soto, Tupelo, Booneville, Grenada, and Jackson. Most buildings on campus are built in a Georgian style; however, some of the newer buildings embody a more contemporary design.

  • On campus, there are significant student groups and organizations such as theatre, Young Life, the Associated Student Body (student government), Ole Miss Outdoors, and the Student Media Center.
  • This university has athletic teams that compete as the Ole Miss Rebels in the Division I Southeastern Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

On campus accomodation

Approximately 5,300 students live on campus in 13 residence halls, two residential colleges, and two apartment complexes. A variety of housing options are available for students on campus, like residence halls, traditional halls, and apartments. 

  • First-year students are required to live on campus.
  • Students living in the residential halls have access to basic amenities, including Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, cable television, furnished rooms, central heating, and air conditioning.
  • In addition to providing in-room bathrooms, these residence halls also include amenities such as a community kitchen, large lounges, and a dedicated study area. 
  • The residence halls are divided into male and female wings.
  • The only 'certified green' restaurants in Mississippi are two of the campus dining services: Catering at UM and the Rebel Market.
