University of Ontario Institute of Technology, branded as Ontario Tech University, is a public research institution established in 2002 and located in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Teaching students new approaches to problem-solving along with innovative uses of technology, the university offers a total of 91 undergraduate and graduate programs across nine areas of study. The University of Ontario Institute of Technology is home to more than 10,000 students among which more than 600 belong to the international community.

Transportation in the city

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology is located in Oshawa, Ontario and the distance between the city and the university is less than seven miles. The university has two campuses, one in north Oshawa and another in downtown Oshawa. Travel between the two campuses is an easy 15-minute bus ride or about 10 minutes by car. Bus fares typically cost between 3.85 to 6.41 CAD (239 to 398 INR) while taxi fares are between 19 to 24 CAD (933 to 1492 INR). Students can also travel to the university by train, with two stations located approximately 11 kilometers from the north campus and five kilometers from the downtown Oshawa campus.


Services offered by the university

  • Both campuses offer libraries that are well-equipped with books and media resources along with study spaces. 
  • Students can access academic support through workshops, one-on-one support, and academic advising.

Student life

  • With over 97 clubs and societies, students can participate in a range of events surrounding academics, community outreach, sports, culture, faith, hobbies, and other special interests. 
  • Students have access to numerous sports facilities including the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, the Flex Fitness Center, and a soccer and rugby field. The university is home to 16 varsity teams and 2 sports club teams. 
  • The university partners with a local Canadian culinary company to provide its students with a variety of freshly prepared cuisines through daily customized menus.

On campus accomodation

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology offers on-campus accommodation for students throughout their three residencies which include four suite-style residence halls and one apartment-style residence suite. 

  • The University of Ontario Institute of Technology provides housing facilities through the Simcoe Village Residence, South Village, and West Village Residencies. Simcoe Village Residence includes three halls: Central Hall, South Hall, and North Hall. South Village and West Village Residences feature fully furnished and apartment-style suites, respectively. The following is a comprehensive list of the residence mentioned above halls, their features, amenities, and respective rates. 
  • Part of the Simcoe Village Residence, the Central Hall and South Hall includes two variations of a spacious open-concept model. Their fully furnished suites consist of two double beds separated by a partial wall, a kitchenette, a three-piece bath, and a workspace. The all-inclusive rates for the academic year of 2022-2023 are 6,600 CAD (4,10,843 INR). 
  • Part of the Simcoe Village Residence, the North Hall features semi-private fully furnished suites with two private bedrooms, a three-piece bath, a large kitchenette, and a workspace. The all-inclusive rates for the academic year of 2022-2023 are 8,450 CAD (5,26,069 INR). 
  • The South Village is a semi-private fully furnished suite that includes two private bedrooms, a three-piece bath, a large kitchenette, a workspace, and a small seating area. The all-inclusive rates for the academic year of 2022-2023 are 8,000 CAD (4,98,054 INR). 
  • West Village Residences feature apartment-style suites, ideal for upper-year students. It consists of three and six-bedroom units that include five appliances, parking, networked internet, and large bedrooms with spacious closets.
