Transportation in the city

To provide transportation, the University of Tampa has a car-sharing program on campus, UT has teamed with Zipcar. Students, educators, and staff who are 18 years of age and older can use the practical, affordable transportation alternative whenever they need it, seven days a week. Members only pay for the time they rent the car — either by the hour or by the day — and have access to vehicles using either their mobile device or their Zipcard. A free bike rental service for all students called BikeUT was established to encourage outdoor exercise and environmentally friendly modes of transportation.

A comprehensive public safety program is provided for the benefit of the university community by The University of Tampa, which keeps a visible presence on all of the campuses.

  • The UT Library provides users with access to more than 1.3 million books as well as a wide range of print and electronic resources, including over 800 databases, 52,000 e-journal subscriptions, and 443,000 e-books. Our collections of audio and visual materials, which include movies, CDs, DVDs, and even LPs, are also available to students.
  • The Macdonald-Kelce Library & libraries, in general, are supported by the people and organizations that make up the Friends of the Library group. Every year, the group supports events and co-hosts them with other school organizations.   • Significant collections of resources about Tampa's history and culture can be found at The University of Tampa Library, which also acts as a meeting place for The University of Tampa's state-wide digital library project.   • UT students currently participate in baseball, basketball for men and women, beach volleyball, cheerleading and dance for men and women, cross country for men and women, golf for men and women, lacrosse for men and women, women's rowing, soccer for men and women, softball, swimming for men and women, tennis for women, track for men and women, and volleyball for women. UT athletes are among the best in the SSC in terms of players who have been named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, All-American, All-Region, & All-Conference teams. Recent construction by the institution resulted in specialized stadiums for baseball, softball, soccer, track, & lacrosse that are on par with many Division I venues.
  • Soon after the institution was established, the University of Tampa fielded the first collegiate football team in Tampa Bay. Plant Field, where the "Tampa U" Spartans played their first three seasons, had to accommodate numerous neighborhood gatherings. The institution constructed its building in Phillips Field, which was given that name in honor of local entrepreneur I. W. Phillips donated a piece of land near the university for the stadium's location. The Spartans transferred their home field to the newly constructed Tampa Stadium after being promoted.
  • Students have released issues of UT's undergraduate literary journal, Neon (formerly Quilt). Open mic nights are just one of the many activities that Neon hosts during the school year. Neon welcomes a well-known author every year for "Coffeehouse Weekend." Kate Greenstreet & Dorothy Allison were recent guests.
  • The Moroccan yearbook, The Minaret newspaper, and Splice Journal, which feature student work in communication, art, and culture, are some more student-run publications.
