About

Institution founded in 1794. Before taking its current name, this University was known as Bount College in 1794, East Tennessee College in 1807, and East Tennessee University in 1840. The institution was closed during the Civil War, but under the Morrill Act of 1862, the state sponsored its reopening in 1869. Women were first admitted to the institution for a limited time in 1892, followed by the admission of African-American students in 1952. The Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, the Universities Research Association, and the Oak Ridge Association University have all accredited it.

Transportation in the city

Campus Recreation's mission is to promote active, healthy lifestyles, foster leadership development, instill an appreciation for diversity, and enhance interpersonal relationships by providing safe, intentional, and enjoyable activities and facilities focusing on students and the UTHSC surrounding community.


On campus accomodation

  • More than 100 UG and PG courses are offered at the center's six colleges. Dentistry, Medicine, Medical Sciences, Healthcare Practitioners, Pharmacy, and Nursing are all offered at the colleges. Some courses are also available to international students via remote learning.
  • Memphis, Knoxville, and Chattanooga each have three campuses. The state-of-the-art skills and computers required are located on the Chattanooga campus.
  • Nashville's campus collaborates with St. Thomas Healthcare to provide hands-on instruction in dental and nursing. All six colleges have branches on the Knoxville campus.
  • Wi-Fi, a fitness center, lounge rooms, kitchens, 24-hour security, weekly housekeeping, washing, and other common amenities are available at off-campus housing complexes.
  • The University does not provide on-campus accommodation. Off-campus housing halls are available to international students. These rooms can be rented alone or in groups. Studio apartments are also available for students. The University can assist you in finding a place to live.
  • Currently, students can expect to pay around $788 (INR 61,560) per month as the accommodation costs.
