Transportation in the city

Parking lots are inspected by Transit & Parking Services, which also provide transportation to the University of Wyoming campus. There are several independent systems that make up the transit service. Transit & Parking Services provides a range of parking alternatives, including metered parking and several permit options. For individuals who are unable to use the fixed routes because of a disability, the University of Wyoming provides a different transit service. The office of Parking and Transit determines eligibility. The Night Owl Express, which offers on-call service from 1:00 pm to 6:00 am on weekdays and 24 hours a day on weekends, is another service run by Transit & Parking Services. Pressing the dark buttons at one of the campus shelters will request the service.


Services offered by the university

  • The library's most recent remodelling was finished in the fall of 2009, and on November 19, 2009, it was formally opened. The new Coe East wing, which increased the library's size by 94,500 square feet (8,780 m2), was created by Hinthorne Mott Architects.
  • Before the field house was completed in 1951, the Half Acre Gym building was built to house the Laramie National Guard Armory and the athletic activities. The Wyoming State Legislature gave the university a gift to utilise for new construction, including a library, the gym and armoury, a power plant, an engineering building, and an enlargement of the Hoyt Hall dorm, in order to pay for this project.
  • Prexy's Pasture, a sizable grassy space surrounded by academic and administrative buildings, serves as the campus's central gathering place. The term "prexy" refers to the university president, who is granted exclusive use of the territory for livestock grazing, according to an unstated norm.

Student life

Old Main's design became the standard for all upcoming university construction. The trim stone is polished Potsdam, while the main stone is rough-cut sandstone from a quarry east of Laramie. from a quarry close to Rawlins, sandstone Old Main was intended to be a magnificent construction with a conspicuous central spire serving as its focal point. It was also designed to be symmetrical.

  • The University of Wyoming's student body is known as the Associated Students of the University of Wyoming (ASUW). Each and every full-time student is a member of the ASUW and has one vote per full-time student in the ASUW Student Government elections.
  • The university's Campus Sustainability Committee (CSC) oversees the university's efforts and progress in lowering its carbon footprint and provides advice on sustainability issues to all departments and programmes.
  • The U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Silver accreditation is a requirement for all new campus buildings (USGBC).
  • Friday Night Fever's (FNF) mission is to provide University of Wyoming students with late-night entertainment that is free of alcohol. The activities change each week and are varied to accommodate all pupils.

On campus accomodation

Currently, the River Village, Bison Run, Landmark, and Spanish Walk apartment complexes provide apartments in a range of floor plans.

 

  • There are four apartment buildings and four residence halls within the university. The Washakie Dining Center, which houses the main dining hall and other student amenities, connects the four residence halls, Orr, White, Downey, and McIntyre. Freshmen are the main residents of these residence halls. With a few exceptions, all incoming freshmen are expected to dwell in the residence halls their first year.
  • Every residence hall has the name of a well-known administrator or professor. Downey Hall, an eight-story dorm that bears June Etta Downey's name, is situated southwest of the Washakie Dining Center. White Hall, a residence hall bearing Laura Amanda White's name, is situated to the west of the Washakie Dining Center.
  • White Hall, at twelve floors and 146 feet, is the second-tallest structure in Wyoming, trailing only the Wyoming Financial Center in Cheyenne by two feet. East of the Washakie Dining Center is a building called McIntyre Hall that bears Clara Frances McIntyre's name. In 2004 and 2005, this twelve-story structure underwent substantial renovations. 
  • The eight-story Orr Hall, which bears Harriet Knight Orr's name, is located about northeast of McIntyre Hall. Orr Hall had substantial modifications to enhance its living area from 2005 to 2006. East of War Memorial Stadium is where you'll find The University Apartments. They are offered to all University of Wyoming students with at least freshman standing on a first-come, first-served basis.

Research opportunities at university

University of Wyoming CO-WY AMP students are given funding for their undergraduate research projects and travel to local and international conferences. Students in the CO-WY AMP programme are mentored by UW professors and the graduate assistant for the programme. Students take to engage in research at on-campus facilities with expertise in avian ecology, geophysics, biochemistry, and invertebrate research. Additionally, fieldwork in Alaska and an internship at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado, have been undertaken by UW CO-WY students.
