Transportation in the city

All students at Upper Iowa University can take use of a complimentary shuttle service to and from the Cedar Rapids airport, the Iowa City bus station, and Coralville. It is only during the beginning and end of the semesters in the fall and spring that shuttle services are offered, as well as over Thanksgiving and Spring Break. The campus is equipped with state-of-the-art academic facilities such as high-tech classrooms, extensive libraries, computer laboratories, eateries, study halls, lounge areas, etc. The university has 3 acres of prairie land, which is used as a teaching tool for students to learn about the prairie ecosystem and to conduct prescribed burns and research projects. Consequently, other features of the UIU Fayette campus include a fitness center, an 18-hole golf course, a rock-climbing wall, and specially designated rope courses.
  • Student Clubs – Upper Iowa University is home to 40 registered fraternities, sororities, clubs, and organizations. The student clubs are engaged in an array of activities such as politics, social work, performing arts, etc. 
  • Sports Activities – Athletics and sports are two integral aspects of the students' lives at UIU. The university is the only NCAA Division II Athletics Program in Iowa and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The athlete's team of IUI is known as Peacocks, and they are involved in 15 men's and women's sports.

The Fayette campus of Upper Iowa University offers three on-campus housing options to students: traditional residence halls, suite-style living, and apartment-style living. All three accommodations are conveniently located within the UIU premises. 

  • Incoming freshman students are housed in the university's Garbee Hall, a conventional residence hall. The university's suite-style accommodations encompass three South Village buildings that house 30 students per floor. Lastly, UIU also has an apartment building called Lee Towers.
