The most accessible way to the university is through the bus which typically lasts for 25 minutes. Additionally, students can travel to the university through a taxi which lasts for 5 minutes and is estimated to cost 7.40 USD (579 INR). Cycling to the university is also a convenient option since it only takes 6 minutes to reach campus. The Department of Student Affairs provides its students, faculty, and staff with a free shuttle bus service to key points of interest within the local community.

Virginia State University is spread across 231 acres with 11 residence halls, 18 academic buildings, and a 412-acre agriculture research facility. 

• The Johnston Memorial Library offers its students, faculty, staff, and research professionals an extensive print collection, full-text digital periodicals, monographs, periodicals and newspapers, microforms, government publications, and other digital materials. The library also hosts exhibit areas, conference and multimedia group study rooms, and individual and group study rooms and carrels.
• The university’s Academic Center for Excellence provides academic advice, strategic learning resources, and other services that are necessary for a student’s academic success. 
• The Dr. George H. Bennett Office for International Education ensures that students and faculty gain an appropriate level of international knowledge and cross-cultural competence to participate successfully in a global society. Its services include promoting international scholarships, educational exchanges, collaborations, international student assistance, and more. 
• The Virginia State University Writing/ePortfolio Studio (WEPS) offers writing assistance through its many services which include dictionaries, thesauri, technical writing guides for writing in various disciplines, and a computer lab equipped with DreamWeaver software.
• Students from the College of Agriculture have access to the Randolph Farm,  a 416-acre agricultural learning center that hosts agricultural-related research, demonstration, and instruction activities. The farm comprises the Cooperative Extension Pavilion, which houses faculty offices and laboratories, and meeting areas.  Other farm amenities include a new technologically advanced 4000 square feet greenhouse complex with adjacent laboratory, preparation and meeting areas. Randolph Farm hosts field days, workshops, farm conferences, and professional training as well. 
• The university’s state-of-the-art Engineering Building has many classrooms, meeting spaces, and laboratories available at the student’s disposal. 
• Students from the Arts and Design Department are provided with a computer lab and the Meredith Art Gallery which frequently hosts shows and exhibitions. 
• Mass Communication students have access to a variety of lab and studio settings which include the Virginia State TV and radio studios, an elementary sound lab, computer labs, and their latest Pro Tools Lab. This lab provides students with state-of-the-art equipment and features 11 workstations for sound remixing, recording, and mastering processes.
• The Department of Languages and Literature offers all its students a foreign language laboratory, an electronic classroom, and an adaptable black box theater space. 

• Virginia State University’s Department of Student Affairs coordinates a range of co-curricular programs and activities in a student-focused environment. Some of these activities include Homecoming, Spring Fling, the Tree Lighting Ceremony, and the Thanksgiving Dinner. The department also provides a commute lounge where students relax and socialize between classes.
• The university provides its students the opportunity to participate in a variety of extra and co-curricular activities through its many clubs and organizations. They cover a range of interests which include culture, academics, mental health, greek societies, leadership, fashion, media, politics, nutrition, arts, gender, history and society, social work, music, debate, and a couple more. 
• The university allows its students to reserve various rooms/buildings for campus activities and events. Foster Hall offers a space for meetings, activities, conferences, practice, banquets, and much more. 
• Virginia State University’s intramural sports are open to all students, offering various sports leagues. Team sports like basketball, flag football, powder puff football, tennis, soccer, and kickball are offered through the intramural program. Extramural sports include cross country, track, golf, bowling, and cheerleading. 
• The university’s very own Rogers Stadium is home to the Virginia State’s football team and men’s and women's track & field teams and also includes a weight room. 
• The Multipurpose Center is a sports and event arena that seats 6,100 for stage events and 5,100 for sporting events. The center accommodates men's and women's athletic events, commencements, convocations, academic events, concerts, banquets, and meetings. It also includes a practice gymnasium, weight room, and a cardio room. 
• Consisting of nine courts, the Tennis Complex hosts men's and women's tennis teams on campus. Additionally, the university has also established a softball field. 
• The university’s on-campus Health's Sports Medicine Clinic offers a vast array of athletic injury care and specialties. They include operative and non-operative care, rehabilitation, and physical therapy. 
• The Office of Student Health Services offers free and confidential clinic visits that also assist with immunizations and emergencies. 
• The University Counseling Center provides its students with mental health services, sexual assault prevention, substance abuse prevention, and disabilities programs. 
• The on-campus book store sells a range of products including school supplies, electronics, clothing, university merchandise, cell phones, and other accessories. 

Virginia State University offers on-campus housing for all students through its eleven residence halls equipped with different living styles.  All first-time freshmen and sophomore students are required to live on campus and some of the residence halls are handicap accessible.   

• For freshman female students, the Branch Hall has a capacity of 197 spaces, and each wing is equipped with one community bathroom. 
• For freshman female students, the Otelia Howard Hall has a capacity of 254 spaces and is equipped with three large air-conditioned lobbies, individual air conditioning units in each room, recreational areas, a quiet study room, and laundry facilities, and a computer lab. Each wing shares a community bathroom.
• For freshman female students, the Lucretia Campbell Hall has a capacity of 54 single  spaces and features an air-conditioned lobby area where students can relax, laundry facilities, and a computer lab with Internet and word processing capabilities.
• For freshman students, the VSU Quad I has a capacity of 197 spaces with single and double rooms. All double rooms feature private bathrooms and all single rooms are suite-style (two singles share one bathroom). The residence hall is equipped with study lounges on each floor, computer laboratories, laundry facilities, smart classrooms, multipurpose rooms, and a kitchen in each building. It also hosts a central main entrance and lobby, the main commons area, a wellness center, a game room, and a beauty/barber salon.
• For freshman male students, the Williams Hall has a capacity of 207 spaces and features an air-conditioned lobby area where students can relax, a recreational area, laundry facilities, a computer lab that has internet access and word processing capabilities.
