The main campus of the Youngstown State University sprawls across 145 acres of land and has an urban setting. The campus is connected to critical urban centers by trains, buses, and taxis.

YSU operates out of six academic colleges and one graduate school: Beeghly College of Education, Bitonte College of Health and Human Services, Cliffe College of Creative Arts and Communication, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, and Williamson College of Business Administration.
